The Omaggio vase is a modern design classic. Its iconic hand-painted stripes are present in countless Nordic homes and are loved by design enthusiasts all over the world.
The vase’s design is inspired by the work of Tulle Emborg, a talented woman painter who worked in Kähler’s workshop in the 1930s and 40s. So not only is the Omaggio vase a modern design icon, it’s also a piece of Nordic cultural history that’s been reinterpreted and revived by the talented design duo Stilleben.
Stilleben designers, Ditte Reckweg and Jelena Schou Nordentoft say of their work, “We have always been totally fascinated by Kähler's epoch-making ceramics, which have played an enormous part in putting Denmark on the map when it comes to art and design. It is a great pleasure to help bring the art ceramics heritage into a new era and a new form language.”
As in the old Kähler workshop, each and every stripe has been hand-painted. The vases go through multiple hand processes from glazing to quality checking to fine polishing.
Kähler Design creates accessible art for the people.
Now a leading Scandinavian design brand, its roots go back to 1839 as a small Danish pottery producer. For more than 175 years, its tradition has been to collaborate with significant artists to provide distinctive and contemporary collections.
Kähler is firmly established as part of Danish cultural heritage, and it strives to preserve history and traditions in each handmade design.
